Boxcity 4: The Phoenix Boxer lights up the show in a boxing gala in Montreal

Carl Demontgy fought his heart out taking home the victory in the final event of the evening.

Montreal Carl Demontigny (8-0-5) had a game plan going into the final fight of the evening against Etienne Fortiach (5-0-5) in the 160 lbs weight class. The fight was held at Le Rinque/Le Montview in Montreal October 8.

This was the fourth and most successful event hosted by Boxko and The Grant Brothers Boxing.

The 11th fight of the night was one heck of a performance from the duo. The 29 year old Demontigny followed his game plan to perfection.

“My goal was to get a right hander every time he did a jab, or something like that,” said Demontigny, during his post-fight interview. “but at the end I kind of ended up going more to the body.”

It was an excellent match up with a controversial call at the end. In the first round Demontigny set the tone on how he wanted the fight to go. After a few punches thrown, Fortiach realized he had to get moving if he wanted to contend. The 23 year old countered with a very nice jab followed by a right. Proving to Demontigny he was in it for the 3 rounds.

In the second round both fighters came with unmatched momentum. Fortiach got the blue man up against the cables to nail a few combinations. Rolling the punches like thunder strikes the ground, the Pheonix fighter was more experienced when it came to finishing strong. The third round was evenly fought, leaving the Grant Brothers power puncher with a sour taste in his mouth after being defeated.

“He must work on his footwork a lot, sometimes he stayed a little too long in the ropes which gave the opportunity to his opponent to give a good attack,” said Demontigny’s coach in a post-match interview. “in conclusion Carl respected the game plan we had since the beginning.”

BoxKo and the Grant Brothers really showcased the spirit of armature boxing at its finest.

A great fight between Cadet Ohian Hans and Novice Benjamin Lachowiez in the 100 lbs category and took the fight of the night. Both fighters Hans 12 and Lachowiez 13 years old demonstrated what a brilliant future they have in boxing.

The entire 3 rounds were explosive. Hans would make a move then Lachowiez would respond. Both fighters had fabulous technique. Hans was keen on using his jab hook combination as Lachowiez was a master of the slide-hook. Hans ultimately won the fight and fighter of the night.

“I feel great because I won the fight of the night and I like that I won,” said Hans in an interview post- fight. “I’m probably going to try and be more technical next fight and try and hit stronger and faster.”

To everyone’s surprise Artur Beterbiev showed up to support a relative fighting in the early match ups.

“I came because he has the same family name as me” said Beterbiev while standing in the hallway. “This event is really good, well done for an amateur fight.”

It was a sold-out event, this time around. For only four events held at Le Rinque it has grown exponentially. In hopes it will only get better in time.

“Fantastic! BoxKo events is by far the greatest show in amateur boxing, maybe in the entire continent,” said Peter Zergiotis in a post-fight interview. “From the class, to the treatment you get and to the exposure you get for being a part of it.”
